Caliphate Conference. Islamic political group in Bangladesh, founded by Shaykh-ul-Hadith Mawlana Azizul Haq in 1989. Has a following among ulama and madrasa graduates. Works toward establishing Islamic rule in Bangladesh and is known for its opposition to the influence of foreign nongovernmental organizations working in the country. Joined the four-party alliance with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party of Khalida Zia during the 2001 elections to defeat the Awami League.
