Khuzwane (Mwari), the supreme being, is the creator of the world and humanity. But he is remote from humans. The gods of the Lovedu are their ancestors, deceased fathers and mothers who guard one in death as they did in life. Ancestors are protectors; no harm can befall one unless the ancestors are neglectful. They are responsible for the fertility of the crops.
Khuzwane left his footprints on rocks in the north when these rocks were new and soft. But no one knows what has happened to him. See also: Mujaji, Mwari.
