Overview

kinetic friction

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

Friction generated between two dry surfaces in contact during motion. Kinetic friction is a product of the coefficient of kinetic friction and the normal reaction force. It assumes a constant value regardless of the amount of applied force or the speed of the motion. Its value is always less than the limiting friction between the same two surfaces. See also rolling friction.
