(1897–1957), New Zealand Army officer who led a battalion, and later a brigade, in Freyberg's New Zealand division which fought on Crete and in the Western Desert and North African campaigns. He then commanded the 2nd NZ Division in the Italian campaign where he lost both feet. He was one of the official war historians of the New Zealand forces.
