German dancer and teacher. Self-taught, she gave her debut recital in Berlin, in 1919 and, after founding a school and later a company, became one of the key figures of German modern dance. Unlike Wigman and others she and her husband Gustav Vischer were willing to compromise their style to the aesthetic and political dogma of the Nazis.
