Quick Reference

A muscle that effects knee rotation. Lateral rotation of the tibia is effected mainly by the biceps femoris; medial rotation is effected mainly by the semimembranosus semitendinosus, and popliteus when the knee is in flexion and not bearing weight. When the knee is fully extended, the popliteus ‘unlocks’ it by medially rotating the tibia.
