American architect. Known for his exploitation of the steel frame and industrialized building techniques, he made his name with two Case Study houses in Los Angeles, CA (No. 21 of 1958 at 9038 Wonderland Park Avenue, and No. 22 of 1959 at 1635 Woods Drive, the latter cantilevered from a cliff-top overlooking the city). Later works include the Gantert House, Hollywood, CA (1981), the Koenig House, Los Angeles (1984–5), and the Schwartz House, Santa Monica, CA (1991).
