Name of a republican clan in India at the time of the Buddha. Their territory was adjacent to the Śākyas.the clan to which the Buddha belonged, and the clans intermarried. Their lands were separated by the river Rohiṇī, and the Buddha once intervened to settle a quarrel between them concerning rights to the waters. After the Buddha's death the Koliyans were given a one-eighth share of his relics.over which they erected a stūpa.
