Originally the ratio (Q) of the intensity of natural remanent magnetization (NRM) of an igneous rock to the intensity of magnetization induced at room temperature in a magnetic field the same as that in which the original NRM was acquired. Now it usually means the ratio (Qn) of the intensity of NRM to that induced in a magnetic field of 50μT at room temperature.
