Overview

Konomor

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

Semi-legendary Breton king, comparable in stature to the Ulster Cycle's Conchobar mac Nessa, is best known as a kind of Bluebeard. Konomor first reigned in Cornwall and Devon before emigrating to Brittany, settling in the northern regions. In some documents he is known as Marcus Conomorus, thus confusing him with King Mark of Cornwall. He married three times, killing each of the wives when she became pregnant because he feared that a son would kill him. The fourth wife, Trifina (or Tryphi-na), survived him. Konomor decapitated her, but St Gildas restored her head. Trifina's son Trémeur wreaked vengeance upon his father by destroying his castle.
