Quick Reference

He ran Neckinger Mill in Bermondsey, London, from 1800 to 1801, where he pioneered the commercial manufacture of paper from straw, and developed ways to de-ink and recycle waste paper. In 1801 he launched the Straw Paper Manufacturing Company, but was declared bankrupt in 1802, leaving several patents and a book describing his methods.
