(b Rokitzan, Pilsen, 1749; d Vienna, 1820).

Cz. cellist and composer. Father of Nicolaus Kraft. Haydn persuaded him to join Eszterháza orch. 1778–90. Played in court orch., Bratislava, 1790–6, then in Prince Joseph Lobkowitz's orch. in Vienna. Taught in Vienna 1820. Haydn's vc. conc. in D was once attrib. to him. His fine playing inspired vc. part of Beethoven's triple conc.
