German dancer, choreographer, and ballet master. He studied at Munich Opera Ballet School and with Zambelli and Staats in Paris. He was soloist at Munich Court Opera Ballet in 1903, first soloist in 1906 and then principal dancer in Dresden from 1907. In 1917 he returned to Munich as ballet master, also working at Berlin State Opera as director, then at Vienna State Opera. He choreographed many ballets including the first German production of Strauss's Legend of Joseph (Berlin, 1921). He stopped dancing in 1925 but continued as ballet master in Munich where he made a large body of modern ballets as well as directing opera.
