The pan-Indian god of wealth, and, as one of the aṣṭadikpālas, the guardian of the North. In the Purāṇas and Epics, he is said to be the leader of the yakṣas and rākṣasas, and the half-brother of Rāvaṇa. He is normally included in the Śaiva pantheon.
