A Keralan chieftain, and one of the twelve Āḻvār bhakti poets. He was the author of the Perumāḷtirumoḻi (‘Emotional Songs by the Perumāḷ King’), ten ecstatic songs devoted to Kṛṣṇa and Rāma. In the hagiographies, he is presented as a king who eventually abdicated in order to spend his time in devotional activities.
