A form of Goddess worship (pūjā), practised in northeastern India and Nepal, in which a premenstrual virgin (kumārī) has the Goddess installed in her—i.e. becomes the Goddess for the duration of the ritual, or festival—and is worshipped accordingly. She is sometimes referred to as a ‘living goddess’.
