Body of early commentarial literature on the texts of the Pāli Canon, and in particular on the Vinaya Piṭaka. This material, written in Sinhalese and now lost, was used by Buddhaghoṣa in the composition of his exegetical works. Its name derives from the site where it was compiled, the Kurundavelu monastery (vihāra) in Sri Lanka.
