According to the Arawak Indians, who live in the Orinoco basin of South America, Kururumany was the creator of men, while Kulimina formed women. The creator deity introduced death into the world as soon as he learned of the corruption of mankind. He also added such things as serpents, lizards, and fleas. Beyond Kururumany, however, there appears to be a remote and indifferent first cause, Aluberi. It may be that Kururumany was originally looked upon as a world-building ant god, the agent of an otiose supreme being.
