Tibetan term for the act of taking refuge in the three jewels (the Buddha.the Dharma.and the Saṃgha) as a verbal or mental declaration of adherence to Buddhism. The taking of refuge in Tibetan Buddhism begins with a fourth jewel, the guru.through whom knowledge of the other three is imparted. See also triśaraṇa.
