London-based college specializing in modern dance training, also providing degree courses for dance and related studies. It originated from Laban's Art of Movement Studio which was opened in Manchester in 1948, then moved to Adleston, Surrey in 1953. In 1973, under the direction of Marion North, it moved to New Cross in London, and to Deptford in 2003. It pioneered the first British BA Honours Degree in Dance Theatre (1976) and the first MA in Dance Studies (1980) and now offers several other degree courses. Its advanced performing company, Transitions, was set up in 1983.
