Italian Marxist philosopher, and teacher of moral and political philosophy and philosophy of history in Rome. Labriola corresponded extensively with Engels, and after his death became a staunch upholder of orthodoxy and opponent of revisionist movements in Marxist thought. His letters and essays are an important source for Marxist thought, while his influence extended through pupils such as Croce and Sorel.
