Mucin-associated glycoprotein (MFG-E8, milk-fat globule E8, BA46, 387 aa) found in milk; a phosphatidylserine-binding glycoprotein secreted by macrophages. Promotes adhesion through integrins and has been used as a tumour marker because it is expressed in most breast cancer cells. Binds to rotavirus and thus has a protective role for infants. Aortic medial amyloid (medin) consists of a 50-aa fragment of lactadherin.
