A small family of marine fish that have an oblong, compressed body and an oblique, large mouth with a prominent lower jaw. The pectorals are long and pointed, the tail fin forked. Lactarius lactarius (24 cm), found in the Indo-Pacific region, is of some commercial importance in India and Malaysia. Two species are known.
