King of Hungary from 1077. In the Investiture Controversy he took the side of Gregory VII and Victor III against the German Emperor, but when Urban II refused to acknowledge his suzerainty over Croatia, his relations with the Papacy came under strain. He laboured to spread the Christian faith, especially in Croatia and Dalmatia. Feast day, 27 June.
