A private, non-profit institution on three sites in Los Angeles, USA, dedicated to the promotion of youth sport, and teaching and understanding sport and its qualities and benefits. It was established with the surplus funds of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games. Previously known as the Amateur Athletic Foundation of Los Angeles, it has, in the Paul Ziffren Sport Resource Centre, one of the foremost collections of sport literature and sport data in the world. In its first 25 years of operation, the Foundation reported, it had dispensed over $185 million, benefiting directly more than two million boys and girls and over one thousand youth sports organizations in Southern California.
