A leader who effectively abdicates from the leadership role by allowing members of the group freedom of action and providing little guidance or structure. Experimental studies of leadership style have found that work groups with laissez-faire leaders tend to be more apathetic and less productive than those with authoritarian leaders or democratic leaders.
