A classification of daily weather types, introduced in 1950 by Professor Hubert Lamb. A classification is available for every day from 1 January 1861 to the present day, and the system has been extended to certain earlier periods. There are eight directional types, i.e. the principal compass directions (N, NE, E, etc.), and three non-directional: cyclonic, anticyclonic, and unclassifiable. The information provided by this listing is of great value in climatological studies, particularly with regard to climatic change.
Subjects: Meteorology and Climatology.
