French teacher and priest. His treatise on rhetoric and the philosophy of language, Rhétorique ou l'art de parler (1675, englarged 1688) became known as the ‘Rhétorique de Port-Royal’, a counterpoint to the Port-Royal Logic of Arnauld. His work Entretiens sur les sciences (1683) influenced Rousseau.
