Legendary lost city of Cornish folklore, thought to lie near the modern town of Perranporth on the north coast. Because of its greed and dissoluteness, Langarrow was thought to have been covered over by shifting sand dunes. The story probably reflects the actual covering of two churches of St Piran near Perranporth, though one has since been excavated. The story may have contributed to the Lyonesse story of Arthurian tradition. See also SUBMERGED CITIES.
