(1758–1828), author of An Ecclesiastical History of Ireland (4 vols., 1822). Born in Cashel, Co. Tipperary, he was ordained in Rome and taught Hebrew and Divinity at Pavia University. In 1799 he was employed at the RDS as librarian, and later joined Edward O'Reilly and others in founding the Gaelic Society of Dublin.
