Kryptosterol; lanosta‐8,24‐dien‐3β‐ol; a steroid alcohol (triterpene) originally obtained from lanolin. It occurs in the biosynthetic pathway from squalene 2,3‐epoxide to cholesterol in animals and fungi, but not in photosynthetic tissues, where it is replaced by cycloartenol.
