Quick Reference

The human homologue of the yeast longevity assurance gene. In S. cerevisiae the LAG genes encode transmembrane proteins differentially expressed during the replicative life span that are necessary for N-stearoyl-sphinganine (C18-(dihydro)ceramide) synthesis and play a role in determining yeast longevity, although the molecular mechanism is unclear. All Lag1 homologues contain a highly conserved stretch of 52 amino acids known as the Lag1p motif.
