Quick Reference
The final meal of Christ with the Apostles on the night before the Crucifixion. The institution of the Eucharist is seen in the symbolic acts which He performed with the bread and wine at this meal. These are not mentioned in St John's Gospel; it alone records the washing of the Apostles' feet (13: 1–11). Traditionally it has been held that the meal was the Passover, in agreement with the Synoptic Gospels, but Jn. has a different chronology.
