A genus of coelacanths containing the only living species belonging to the order Actinista (See Classification, Osteichthyes, Crossopterygii). L. menaodensis has a cluster of four Hox genes that are more similar to mammals than to ray-finned fishes. It also has an additional gene HoxC1, which was lost during the evolution of mammals from lobed-finned fish. See crossopterygians, Hox genes, living fossil.
