A skin inflammation in response to a hypersensitivity to latex. Irritant contact dermatitis is a common non-allergic reaction to chemicals present in latex products, especially gloves; this is reduced by the use of powder-free gloves. Allergic contact dermatitis is an allergic reaction to specific proteins present in the natural latex.
