An automated system at the Kennedy Space Center, Florida, that performs a checkout of the space shuttle for launch, handles other launch operations, and conducts the countdown. It is located in the launch control centre. The LPS interfaces with the shuttle's systems and main engines, the solid rocket boosters, and the external tank. Computer programs perform the checkout and, if unsatisfactory, provide data that isolate the fault.
