On return to Canada, tried and failed to found state-supported cons. and opera co. Taught at Petersilea Acad., Boston, from 1881 and was mus. dir. RC cath. Wrote operas, sym., oratorio, 2 str. qts., vn. sonata, etc., also Canadian nat. song. O Canada! (1880) to words by Adolphe B. Routhier (Eng. vers. 1908 by R. Stanley Weir).
