Quick Reference

(fl. 1506–29).

English master-on. With Janyns and Vertue he was involved in preparing estimates for the new Lady Chapel at Westminster Abbey for King Henry VII (1485–1509). He was employed by Cardinal Wolsey (c. 1475–1530) at Hampton Court from 1515, and by 1525 was resident master-mason at Cardinal (now Christ Church) College, Oxford. He also carried out works at Balliol College, Oxford, and Windsor Castle, Berks. There is evidence that he was a designer, as paper for ‘platts’ (i.e. plans) was accounted for his use in 1515.
