The trade name for a water-soluble paste containing a synthetic corticosteroid (triamcinolone acetonide) and a broad-spectrum antibiotic (demethylchlortetracyline) used in the initial treatment of irreversible pulpitis. It has anti-inflammatory and bacteriostatic properties but also suppresses pulpal defences, resulting in the rapid increase in any bacteria not affected by the antibiotic it contains. The paste has been reported to cause discoloration of the crowns of immature teeth.
