caricaturist and illustrator, a friend of Thackeray and of Dickens, whose A Christmas Carol and other Christmas books he illustrated. From 1841 until his death he contributed to Punch political cartoons and scenes of everyday middle‐class life. He illustrated the work of Surtees.
