An exercise that helps to strengthen the hamstring muscles. It is best performed on a fixed-weight machine with a leg extension unit (figure 37).▪ Lie on your stomach. Hook both your feet under the leg extension unit so that the bottoms of your calf muscles are resting against the bar. Pull the unit upwards, moving your heels towards your buttocks. Hold for a few seconds then slowly lower the leg unit; repeat about four times.If, like many exercisers, you have neglected the hamstrings in your strength-training programme, start with light weights, progressing gradually to heavier ones.
