An actin-binding protein (572 aa) that is expressed in muscle, eye, and thryoid and is the autoantigen in some cases of Graves' disease where there is the complication of thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy. There are sequence similarities that suggest leiomodin, and tropmodulin may have evolved from a common ancestral gene. May nucleate sarcomere assembly in striated muscle.
