English archivists in the State Paper Office. The elder Lemon, a clerk from 1795, became deputy keeper (1818), much involved in sorting records into categories and removing the Office to St James's. His son worked there from 1819, was assistant keeper of public records 1855–66, edited the first two volumes of State Papers Domestic (1856, 1865), and organized the library of the Society of Antiquaries.
