The earliest known representative of the important Palaeozoic family of plants, the Lepidodendraceae. Closely related to Lepidodendron, Lepidophloios kilpatrickense is distinguished by its internal anatomy. It is recorded from the Upper Carboniferous of Scotland. See also lycopsida.
