A genus of sedges that have a creeping underground rhizome and aerial stems which are often 3-angled in cross-section. They occur in eastern Asia and Australia. There are a total of 40 species, occurring in Malesia and Australia. L. gladiatum (sword sedge) is used to stabilize sand dunes in Australia.
