(b Sartrouville, 29 Jan. 1972)
French dancer. He studied at the Paris Opera Ballet School and graduated into the company in 1988, becoming étoile in 1993. The last of Nureyev's protégés in the company, he combined a virtuoso technique with a charismatic dramatic presence and was successful in both the classical and modern repertories. He created roles in several works, including Petit's Camera Obscura (1994), Le Guépard (with Ballet de Marseilles, 1995), Preljocaj's Casanova (1998), and Forsythe's Pas/parts (2000) and guested with several companies, most notably partnering Sylvie Guillem at the Royal Ballet, in Romeo and Juliet and Marguerite and Armand (the first to dance Nureyev's role since the ballet was created). He began choreographing his own works in 2001, including Caligula (mus. Vivaldi, 2005).
