A genus of xeromorphic shrubs that have alternate, simple, sessile leaves with stipules. They have small, regular, bisexual flowers in spikes or racemes, and the fruit is a loculicidal capsule. There are about 150 species, mainly represented in Australia but found also in Malesia, New Zealand, and New Caledonia.
