Quick Reference

Refers both to the standard of achievement within a specific curriculum, and to the status of qualifications in a national framework. Thus, a pupil will be assessed as having attained a specific level as defined by the national curriculum; and the same pupil may eventually go on to gain a degree, which is a qualification at level 6 of the National Qualifications Framework. As well as applying to these curricular and national levels, the term may also be used within an individual institution to refer to stages in an education programme, where, for example, students going into their second year of a programme of study may be said to be progressing from level 1 to level 2.
