The process of automatically examining the text passing down a transmission line to detect certain words or phrases. One use of this form of monitoring is to detect employees who are accessing undesirable sites. For example, the occurrence of words such as ‘sex’ and phrases such as ‘big girls’ travelling on a transmission line to a browser would indicate an interest in non-work-related activities.
