The interface between medicine and psychiatry, recognized by the Royal College of Psychiatrists as a speciality of psychiatry. Liaison teams consist of psychiatric nurses, psychiatrists, and sometimes psychologists or social workers. They are usually located in general hospitals and see patients after deliberate self-harm. They also see other patients in the general hospitals when a mental illness is suspected in order to diagnose and advise on treatment.
